[Just Watched] New Video: Zambri – “Hundred Hearts”

Yesterday Stereogum premiered ‘ethereal duo’ Zambri’s new video for single “Hundred Hearts”. The blogosphere picked it up and now it’s all over the place. With good reason.

“Intense” is what Stereogum calls it. Indeed it is. The video (capturing various persons reacting passionately, as if in a trance, to a shape shifting mural a mysterious girl – another Zambri – has laid out for them to find) makes me squirm. The song itself hypnotizes and lulls, pulling you in, then pushing you back out again, leaving you dazed and affected. Like a fucking Siren Song that won’t quit your head. It’s unsettling and beautiful.

I love these ladies. Sisters (who could be twins) Cristi Jo and Jessica pack powerhouse voices deep inside their little bodies and wield silver tongues in the area of lyricism. They have an album out, House of Baasa (Kanine Records) which I have (shamefully) yet to listen to. But, having heard and been completely drawn in by “Hundred Hearts”, I’m going off to remedy that offense.

Oh, by the way, my twin sister, Cold Blood Club’s female vocalist Kendra Jones is in the video. So, I’m not completely unbiased.
